New Books!!!

My new books have arrived today. I don't normally buy so many at once but the mood just took me as I was browsing. I am particularly looking forward to reading the Sophie Dahl book as it is a bit of an autobiography as well, also her recipes are delicious. yum! The Farrow and Ball books I bought to help me with colour choices for decorating my new house. I think I need a bigger house as there are so many ideas I want to incorporate. The remaining ones I have bought through recommendations from other bloggers, which I have found never disappoints.

A Handy Hold-It-All

Don't you think this is so useful? They could be made to go anywhere round the home. Imagine it hanging by the sink holding dishes brush, or in the bathroom filled with toothbrushes or cotton buds. They are ever so simple to make, knit a square to the desired size (any stitch you like) and simply fold overand hold into place with a satin ribbon and voila!!! Great, isn't it?

Baby Booties

My very dear friend had a baby this summer, a lovely little girl called Mille. I got to thinking that when I had my two precious babies I liked nothing better than to dress them in home knit clothes. My mam was great at knocking out lovely baby knits, from cardi's to hats & mitts. They looked so cute!!
So I got an idea into my head that I would knit Millie something to wear. I found a couple of simple but pretty knitting patterns and had a go. (The above cardi is a Debbie Bliss pattern). They didn't even take long to knit which is great for me as I have a tiny concentration span. I love, love how they have turned out, especially the cardi. It was knit in cashsoft DK and was the most delightful colour. It was chunky but very soft, an ideal cardi for the Autumn.
The booties look too good to wear, they are so delicate. I hope her mummy has decided to put them on Millies feet as the colour choice would go with anything.

Going to try and do some more regular posts now that I am set up again with my blogging site. What do you think?

How I love the summer

The summer is here and for most people life is in full-swing by now. For me, however, I feel really behind on most things. I'm taking it slowly but surely and getting ready for a change. I have been venturing outside into my garden and I must say how beautiful the roses are this year. Especially the ones that grow on the side of cottages and painted fences. They make me very happy indeed.

I like how things are, so I'm making memories of them, to capture my moments in time.

I'm loving my new camera and have started to take it everywhere with me. Its one of those all singing and dancing jobbies with loads of gadgets. I love gadgets!!! Also if you make a mistake you can just delete it straight away, which is great if you photograph like me!!

When things are in order all is right with the world...or at least it helps. Its not often things in my house are tidy and organised, but when it is, it's lovely and I have to share it with you. Also they are good additions to my memory box. I remember teaching my Year 5 class a poem called the Magic Box. In this magic box you could put in anything, it didn't have to be tangible. You could have a giant's sneeze, a river that flows backwards or baby's first smile. It's got me thinking that I could use my virtual box in my virtual world. What do think?

My favourite flowers are roses and hydranges. I think it's the colours that draw me to them so vivid yet delicate. Enjoy the pictures and furthermore enjoy the weekend!jx

This Summer's Beach Bag - Free Pattern

The Blossom Bag -this free pattern was originally published by Star New Hats, Book No. 117. Suggested yarn is AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" FAST HEAVY CROCHET MERCERIZED COTTON, Article 140.
Now I have no idea what this is, being a bit of a yarn novice. However, I have spent a while looking to see what type of yarn other bloggers are using for similar bags and have decided to go for an Aran yarn. I think something with a big of weight will do nicely. Might even treat myself and go for a Debbie Bliss yarn because her colours are wonderful so its worth paying a little bit extra.

4 balls for Bag. (Now for this I'm going for 50g balls)
crochet hook No. 4
GAUGE: 13 s c = 2 inches. 7 rounds = 1 inch.
Each flower measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter.

Pattern is as follows:
BAG
Starting at bottom of bag, ch 28, and work 3 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each st of ch, working 3 s c in last st, working across opposite side of chain work 1 s c in each st, do not join this or following rounds. Place a marker at beginning of each round.
2nd Round: 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 25 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 1 s c in each remaining s c.
3rd to 9th Round: 1 s c in each s c on sides increasing 3 s c evenly spaced around each end in each round.
10th Round: Working in back loop of sts only, work 1 s c in each s c.
Working through both loops of sts, work even in s c until bag measures 7 ½ inches from 10th round, sl st in next st to even round, cut thread. Turn down 1 ½ inches at top of bag and sew to inside of bag.
HANDLE
Crochet a chain 11 inches long, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn each row. Work 3 more rows of s c, cut thread. Fold lengthwise and sew together forming a tube. Make another handle in same manner. Sew in position on inside of bag.
FLOWERS
Ch 5, join to form a ring, * ch 3, d c in ring, ch 3, sl st in ring, repeat from * 4 times, join, cut thread. Work 32 more flowers in same manner. With "star" mercerized sewing thread sew around brim of hat as illustrated sewing one flower on top of crown.
Work 50 flowers and sew 25 flowers as illustrated 1 inch from top of bag. Sew the remaining 25 flowers 1 inch from bottom of bag. Cut a cardboard to fit bottom of bag and place in bag.
This will look super once worked up...might even add a stripe or two to the design for a seaside feel.

Inspirational Footstools

I've always had a thing for footstools. They are so versatile and stylish to have in ones sitting room. As I was browsing through blogland at Heins Home I came across the following crochet ones...they really are rather good, aren't they? I'm loving the whiteness and oversized stitches, they add such texture...don't you think?

Its given me an idea to find an old footstool at a car boot sale and recover it, I could double or triple up the wool for thickness and use an extra large crochet hook. It would work beautifully and the effect would be so unique.

Also at the same site they have crochet floor rugs which are exquiste, I particular like the borders used and it would be so easy to copy from the photo...might have a go at writing/drawing that one down tomorrow in my notebook.

Happy Valentines Day

Be with me always...take any form...drive me mad! only DO not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! it is unutterable! I CANNOT live without my life! I CANNOT live without my soul!'"- Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights.

Is it possible.....?

After an amazing start to the year, it has been forecast more snow for tomorrow. Now what a treat this would be...even if only for just one day. Lets keep our fingers crossed.x

Its the weekend...Yaaaay.x

Thank goodness its here. On reflection, I'm more sleepy than usual and looking forward to my Saturday sleep in...what are you looking forward to this weekend? Let me know and I'll enjoy reading about it from the cosyness of my bed...x

Cat in the Hat...!!!

My previous post got me thinking about our furry friends during this cold spell. What a better way to keep that pesky snow off their heads than with a selection of quirky hats. They are great, don't you think and certainly put a snigger on my face...hoped the kittys liked them too...x

They almost have a vintage feel about them or are my giggles blurring my vision....hmmm
